My client is a significant force in the fields of construction and contract mining. With operations already established in Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Asia, with an annual turnover exceeding $1.2 billion and 3000 employees.

A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Country / Operations Manager to lead their operations in Mongolia.

Role Description
The role takes responsibility for the management of all in-country activities as well as the management of external stakeholders.

Key accountabilities
Set up of the Business in Mongolia;
Stakeholder management, including client and government relations;
Operational management of mining operations;
Planning and execution;
Business development & winning work;
Ensure all production and budgetary targets and deadlines are met.

Requirements
Be a tertiary qualified Engineer with extensive operations management experience;
Proven track record at the Operation Manager level, ideally within the Asia Surface mining industry (Coal experience highly desirable);
Ability to communicate with a wide diversity of people and to overcome language barriers;
High degree of autonomy, adaptability and a can-do attitude;
Have an understanding of, and inherent focus on safety;
Be flexible and adaptable, able to easily adjust to changing circumstances;
Previous experience in developing countries with low level labour skills available.

This client is looking to secure the service of an exceptional hands on practical Miner Engineer who has had previous experience in the Gold Mining industry and is able to provide leadership and compliance to international standards, while at the same time meeting local standards and regulations.

The successful candidate will have had a strong background in Gold Mining and or Project Management and will have extensive knowledge of the whole mining function - corporate mine planning, resource/reserves, financial modeling.

Key Responsibilities Include:
Manage principal areas of risk surrounding the processing and engineering.
Review and endorse relevant schedules.
Assist in ensuring project budgets are closely managed, monitored and accurately reported.
Assist in formulation and management of project execution strategies.
Take initiative with corrective or contingency actions to deal with threats to progress and outcome.
Coordinate engineering project activities with appointed mine contractors.Ensuring compliance with the company policies and procedures.
Ensuring that all employees performance management objectives and key result areas are been managed.
Overall management of staff within the financial departments.
Building and maintaining good working relationships with the alternative departments.
Able to communicate effectively with all stakeholders within the company.

Ideal Candidate:
Degree qualified in Mining, Geology or Engineering
Technically competent
Significant Underground experience
Sound understanding of the mining industry
Good time management, planning and cost management skills
Proven track record in a similar role
Strong interpersonal skills written and verbally.
You will have excellent communications skills and be highly motivated and enthusiastic.

This position will be reporting directly to the Project Manager: Mining.

Responsibilities
Overall custodian of the Project Team and subcontractors;
Effectively liaise with and indirectly control the incumbent mining companies’ teams to perform the work required to achieve the objectives of the project team;
Has a hands on approach and identifies potential obstacles that could have a negative impact on safety and/or production;
A problem solver that would report problems together with solutions to rectify problems/potential problems timeously within the business unit;
Develop highly motivated and productive teams;
Safety of the Project Team and subcontractors;
Development and installation of a pro-active approach to all safety issues in the workplace;
Profitable and safe achievement of production targets and other deliverables through building and maintaining cohesive, well-trained and well functioning teams;
Work is carried out on a daily basis and meets daily production targets;
Effective coordination and management of the support function and whose is vital for production targets to be achieved;
As the work is performed on surface and underground, must be able to work in a high risk, stressful and non routine working environment;
Have the ability to monitor and control resources and costs;
Ensure the Mission, Vision and Values Charter in the work domain is implemented and entrenched;
Ensure HR with the domain are trained, competent and developed;
Establish and maintain friendly and constructive supportive teamwork relations;
Maintain environmental conditions conducive to good performance;

Manage and control section budgets within cost and production parameters;
Ensure provided systems, practices, methods and procedures are implemented and continuously improved;
Provide guidance, support and direction to subordinates/peers.

To be considered for this position you must:
Have a minimum of 10 years experience in small scale mining;
Have previous expat experience;
Be a highly motivated self starter and display integrity, reliability and be able to cope under pressure;
Display a positive attitude, tenacity, charisma, assertiveness, diplomacy, objectivity and decisiveness;
Preferably possess a Western Australian Shift Supervisor’s Certificate or equivalent;
Willing to work for extended periods on site and commute;
Be computer literate.
